Gerry Goldsholle, Founder and CEO, and Member, Board of Directors

Gerry Goldsholle is Advice Company's founder and CEO. Prior to launching Advice Company in 1991, Goldsholle was Chief Brokerage Officer of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and President and CEO of MetLife Marketing Corporation. During a 20 plus career at MetLife he created and headed two multi-billion dollar insurance ventures and served as MetLife’s Vice President for Corporate Planning and Development, head of its Investment and Fiduciary Services unit, an officer of its property / casualty and reinsurance companies, a member of the Board of Directors of numerous subsidiaries, and as an Assistant General Counsel. He began his career as a trial lawyer at the Securities and Exchange Commission after service as an Army officer. He graduated with honors from the College of William and Mary and from Columbia University’s Law School, completed the Stanford Business School’s Executive Program and is currently a Master of Liberal Arts candidate at Stanford University.

Mr. Goldsholle is a member of the bars of California, New York, and the Supreme Court of the United States. He has chaired the Insurance Committee of the American Bar Association’s Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice Section, the Group Insurance Programs Committee of the State Bar of California and the New York City Bar Association’s Administrative Law Committee, and held many other Bar leadership positions covering such fields as Government Ethics, Professional Responsibility, Government Regulation, and Securities Law. He has spoken extensively on legal and business topics throughout the United States and in England and Canada, and testified as an expert before committees of the United States Senate and House of Representatives. His has also been President of the Stanford Business School Alumni Association's San Francisco Chapter and is a member of the Dean's Advisory Board of the School of Business and Management of the University of San Francisco.


Brian Brown – Executive-Vice President, Business Development

Brian Brown is Executive Vice-President for Business Development and serves as a Vice-president of the Company's affiliate, DoItYourself.com Incorporated. Mr. Brown, who joined Advice Company in 1996, formerly served as general manager of the Advice Company's directory businesses, responsible for sales, marketing programs and strategic alliances. Prior to joining Advice Company he worked for the law firm of Day, Berry & Howard in Connecticut as a project manager. Brown also has done production work for ESPN International and was a professional soccer player with the Cape Cod Crusaders. He earned his BA at the University of Pennsylvania.


Michael Shanahan -- Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technology Officer

Michael Shanahan joined Advice Company in 2000 as its Chief Technology Officer and was promoted to Senior Vice President in 2003 and became Chief Operating Officer that same year. He is primarily responsible for all aspects of the state of the art technology used for the Company’s websites and new technology initiatives. Prior to joining Advice Company he had been a college instructor, and Director of Internet Development, and Vice-President of Curriculum Development of a leading Internet-based medical education firm. He is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Rochester, and also studied at Albany Medical College and Stanford University.


Mary Martin -- Vice-President, Secretary and Executive Editor

Mary Martin joined Advice Company in 1997 and currently serves as Executive Editor and head of Staff Operations. She is responsible for developing, sourcing and editing legal content for the Company’s legally oriented websites. In addition to managing content flow and outside authors, she is responsible for internal staff operations, including government requirements. Prior to joining Advice Company she had a 29-year career as executive editor, manager of practice systems software development, and a corporate officer at legal publisher Commerce Clearing House. She earned a BA from Dominican College.


James T. Greenier – National Director of Sales

James T. Greenier joined Advice Company as its first National Director of Sales, in October, 2006. He brings to the Company years of hands on experience in assisting over 500 law firms throughout North America with Internet marketing. Mr. Greenier, who is also a member of the Corporate Management Office, is now creating a top notch, totally ethical nationwide direct sales force to better service attorneys and experts. He attended the University of Southern Mississippi, served in the U.S. Air Force and previously worked for several top legal services companies, including LawyerSuccess.com, USLegalForms.com and the FindLaw.com unit of legal publisher West’s, a unit of Thompson Publishing Company. He was FindLaw's leading sales representative in Southeastern region.


Board of Directors


Steve Bow, Chairman

Steve Bow has been non-executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of Advice Company since 2005, and formerly chaired its predecessor Advisory Board. A nationally known business leader, Bow was previously President and CEO of Blue Cross of Kentucky where he doubled the company's net worth in four years, prior to its merger into what is now Anthem Insurance Companies. He has also held been Blue Shield of Kentucky, Delta Dental of Kentucky, and President and CEO of Anthem Life Insurance Company, President and CEO of Capital Holding Corporation (renamed Providian and later sold to Aegon) and was Senior Vice President in charge of all Metropolitan Life's operations in the Western United States.

Throughout his career Steve has served on more than 30 company, university, and nonprofit boards; he continues to serve on several boards, including that of the California Chamber of Commerce. In addition he is the recipient of numerous awards and honors including:

  • Leadership Award from the International Women's Forum
  • Citizen of the Year Award from Wright State University
  • Hall of Fame for Corporate Turnarounds
  • Frederick D. Patterson Award from the United Negro College Fund

Bow holds degrees from Berea College and the American College, and also completed Columbia University's Executive Program in Business Administration.


Gary L. Goldsholle, Member, Board of Directors

Gary Goldsholle is Vice-President and Associate General Counsel for regulatory policy at the NASD in Washington, D.C. A cum laude graduate of Duke University, he attended the London School of Economics, and earned his law degree from the University of Chicago Law School. He is a member of the California and District of Columbia Bars, and is a former chair of the Corporate and Securities Law Committee of the District of Columbia Bar Association.


Joel Wagonfeld, Member, Board of Directors

Mr. Wagonfeld was elected to Advice Company's Board of Directors in September 2006. He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Stanford University and also holds an MBA from Stanford's Graduate School of Business. Mr. Wagonfeld, who has been nationally recognized as an eCommerce and technology industry analyst, formerly served as an industry analyst with Bank of America Securities and First Albany Securities.


M. Lauck Walton, Member, Board of Directors

Mr. Walton retired as a partner of the Donovan Leisure Newton & Irvine law firm in New York City, and later served as Associate General Counsel of the Federal Deposit Insurance Company in Washington, DC. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia Law School, where he was an Editor of the Law Review, and has held numerous leadership positions including service on several boards of directors as well as elective office in Shenandoah County, Virginia.

M. David Goldsholle - Vice-president; and Founder & CEO -- DoItYourself.com Inc.

David Goldsholle is Vice-president of Advice Company and the Founder and CEO of its affiliate, DoItYourself.com Inc., the leading independent home improvement site (see www.DoItYourself.com). He formerly headed the Company's programming and web development team.

David joined the Company in 1995 after a career as an entrepreneur, business executive, and computer technology and marketing consultant. He has combined an extensive technical background with heavy marketing experience since he began his career 30 years ago and went on to become a founder and principal of several successful retail, manufacturing and marketing businesses. He is a graduate of C. W. Post College of Long Island University and completed Macy's Executive Management Program.


Suzanne Gallagher von Lengerke -- Director and Editor for Newsletters
also President of Advice Publications, LLC

Suzanne earned a BA in Economics from Georgetown University and also earned her MBA in Finance, summa cum laude, from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Before joining the Company to initiate the Advice & Counsel Newsletter in 1995, she had served as President of Medical Second Opinion, Inc. which publishes several successful medically oriented newsletters. She began her career as an equity trader for a Xerox subsidiary, and was a senior consultant for Alliance Capital Management.


Key Staff Members


Brandon Brown – Search Engine Management and Marketing

Brandon holds a degree in geology and environmental engineering from Lehigh University and after work with the Army Corps of Engineers joined Advice Company in 1989 in sales and marketing and became a proficient technical executive before moving to Washington, DC in 2002, to become the search engine optimization specialist for a leading hotel marketing firm. He rejoined Advice Company, through his own firm, in 2005.


JT Fenn – Marketing and Customer Service

John T. Fenn (aka J.T.) joined the staff of Advice Company in May, 2006 and manages its Client Services. Over the past decade, J.T. spearheaded Sales, Marketing, and Client Services efforts for a number of high-technology companies. Most recently, J.T. ran the Client Services department for BioArts, a cutting-edge biotechnology company, where he managed relationships hundreds of clients simultaneously. Prior to that, J.T. was an Account Executive with NetSuite, a Larry Ellison-owned software company, where he quickly won accolades and became one of the company's top Sales Reps. Going back further, J.T. had the opportunity to spearhead business development efforts for the "Launch Team" of a technology incubator called idealab where he successfully started and grew 7 companies over a period of 5 years. J.T. has a degree in Film Studies from UC Santa Barbara and has a number of screen writing credits for animated television programs which still run on Nickelodeon.


Seema Garg – Senior Programmer

Seema Garg as been retained as a consulting programmer since late 2005. She is involved in the development of a multitude of programming tasks across the Company's websites. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Technology from IIT Roorkee, India. She formerly was the Sr. Software Engineer in Dialpad, a leader in IP based telecommunications. She has also worked in Fujitsu and Distinct Corp. She has been involved in website and internet application programming since 1999.


Patricia Gima, J.D. – Senior Editor

Patricia Gima joined the Advice Company content team in late 2005, bringing with her more than 7 years of experience as a Senior Editor, writing and editing for Nolo.com, co-authoring three books, including Nolo’s Pocket Guide to California Law, The Trademark Registration Kit and Domain Names: How to Choose & Protect a Great Name for Your Website, and for the legal publisher, Matthew Bender. Ms. Gima practiced law in San Francisco as a partner in Creative Media Law Group, specializing in corporate law and intellectual property matters for the technology industry. She earned her law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco and her BA in Political Science from the University of California at Los Angeles. She currently writes and edits new content for FreeAdvice.com, develops new content areas for the site, and assists in the management of independent authors and interns. Ms. Gima also serves on the Planning and Oversight Committee for the Oakland Fund for Children and Youth, a foundation that grants $10 million each year to nonprofit organizations providing vital services and programs for underserved children and youth in the city of Oakland.


Theresa Morgan – Billing Services

Theresa handles billing as a contractor for the Company’s AttorneyPages,com directory. She is a graduate of West Virginia University, and also earned a Master’s in Human Resource Management at WVU. Prior to joining Advice Company, she was an HR manager for the law firm of Steptoe & Johnson in Washington, DC and Sallie Mae, the national student loan marketing corporation.


Woody Phillips – Manager, Technology and Programming

Forrest (aka Woody) Phillips is a 25-year veteran of the computer industry. His name appears as inventor on six patents held by Honeywell Information Systems (now BULL HN Information Systems Inc.) and he has been involved in website and Internet application programming since 1997. Prior to joining Advice Company, Woody was lead engineer at Symbolic Productions, a Phoenix-based web design and Internet marketing company where he created the Interactive Marketing System. Previous positions also include Vice President of Developer Relations at Sirius Publishing in Scottsdale, AZ and Vice President of Quality at JJA, Inc. in Hampstead, NH. Woody has a Bachelor’s degree in Management from Lesley College and studied engineering at Northeastern University.


Matt Williams – Marketing and Customer Services

Matt is a graduate of the University of North Carolina and joined Advice Company in 2001 after working at several Internet companies. He is now on a leave to study for a MBA at New York University.


Jill Yonover -- Billing and Foreign Language Services

Jill handles billing as a contractor for the Company's ExpertPages.com directory and also works on foreign language translations. She is a graduate of Northwestern University and earned a Masters in Education from New York University, was a public relations staffer for Burson - Marstellar in New York and Paris, and taught French and Spanish in the Chicago Metropolitan area.
