The sooner you contact an attorney the better. Since these are joint accounts, either spouse has the same access to add or deplete these accounts. However, through temporary orders, you can request the court to order you spouse to return some of the funds to help cover basic living expenses. The longer you wait the more likely it will be that the money will be spent and gone. If you have your check depositing into one of these accounts, then you need to have a new account set up in your name only that your spouse cannot access and deplete. You don't have to have an attorney to file for divorce or seek temporary orders, but it really helps to get things moving if you do. Look for an attorney that specializes in family law.
