It depends on the circumstances. If you were fired because you were not well-suited for the job, your position was eliminated due to budget cut-backs or because of reasons of poor job performance, you may still be eligible for unemployment benefits.
However, if you were fired for misconduct (i.e. terminated for cause) you may not be qualify for unemployment compensation. Misconduct includes such things as stealing, failing a drug or alcohol test, falsifying records, deliberating violating company policy and/or other serious actions related to employment.
The fact is that eligibility requirements to qualify for unemployment vary from state-to-state. So what you should do now si to check with your state's unemployment office.
