It depends on what is written in the trust agreement. Living trusts are not allowed to go on forever, so every trust agreement should say how long the trust may continue. Usually, the trust agreement allows the trust to continue for several years after the death of the grantor (that is your mother in this case). But sometimes, a trust agreement requires that the trust assets be distributed fairly quickly after the grantor's death. You will have to look at your trust agreement to see how long you can keep the trust.
