What to do if my dog was tied up in our own yard and a retarded 22 year old retarded came into the yard, walked right up to him and was bitten?
She went right up to him despite the fact that he was growling at her and I was yelling at her to stop. Unfortunately she recieved 22 stitches to her scalp as a result. I’ve received a letter from an attorney notifying me of their intent to sue for damages and asking me to forward it to my insurance company. I rent and have no insurance. I’m 61 and on social security disability. The dog is 6 years old and has never bitten or acted threatening towards anyone before. In fact, he’s always been quite friendly. How can I fight this suit?

The attorney is hoping to get a quick settlement from homeowners insurance. The victim here was trespassing on your property. They would have a hard time finding you liable in court. You may want to hire an attorney on a flat rate basis to write a letter back to the potential plaintiff's attorney outlining the situation. They may just back off.
