So long as you are being paid for the hours that you work and this salary reduction was for hours going forward (not for the hours that you already worked), then such a decrease is legal. The fact is that most employment relationships are what is known as "at will". This means that a company can set the conditions of employment much as it sees fit. This includes who to pay, how much and for what work duties. Therefore, as long as your treatment did not constitute some form of legally actionable discrimination or breached the terms of union agreement/employment contract, it was perfectly permissable. For your part, you can either accept the wage reduction, complain but risk termination, or quit.
