Am I liable for a debt incurred when I did not live in the unit?
More than three years ago I moved out of an apartment and my roommate stayed. Now the realty company is coming after me for a debt incurred within the last year. Is this legal?

So it sounds a bit ridiculous but it depends on all the facts here. Was the written lease up when you left? Was the owner or managing agent advised of same? And I am hoping that the answer is yes and in writing? Your ties to the apartment have to have been severed under contract law, because that is what the lease was or is: a contract. Make sure you have your ducks in a row otherwise you may have a thrid party action against your old room mate to consider. Good luck.
