The initals "O.R." in a criminal setting stands for "own recognizance". Basically this has to do with being released; a judge to allow a criminal defendant to be released from custody without posting bail. It is typically granted in traffic matters, minor and/or technical crimes. Basically, a defendant who is released O.R. must simply sign a promise to show up in court.
