Can a person with a Michigan drivers license get Texas auto insurance ?

If you have a license in one state and buy auto insurance in another state, there should be a reason for doing so.  I am presuming the auto is being kept in Texas even though you have a Michigan driver’s license. 

Generally, insurance companies want a car insured in the state where it is being garaged.  You don’t have to have a driver’s license in that state, but if you are living there you should get a license in the state where you live.  You may be keeping a car at a second residence you have in another state.  In that case, the insurance and license do not need to be the same, but you should explain to your agent or insurance company as to why they are different.  Also, if you reside in one state but are attending school in another, you may want to, or need to insure the car in the state where it is most of the time.  Car insurance is valid in any state regardless of where the car is insured.
