Can a mortgage company foreclose because of late fees?

I owe $1700in late fees to my mortgage company I am now paying on time. I cannot afford to pay this at this time. My husband had to take an early retirement so our income was cut in half. I will try to make payments the first of the year but they are threatening me. I would think they would worry about the ones that are 3 or 4 months behind.

Yes, they can foreclose if you are behind in any payments.  But you need to get help in dealing with them.  They can not threaten or hassle you.  Call your state Attorney General's office and see what they have on there as to help with mortgages and mortgage foreclosures.  Do not hesitate to speak with someone and tell them your story.  See if they can help with a payment schedule for you.  Can you make a small payment toward the fees in December and then again the first of the year?  This is a good idea to show some good faith.  And let them know that you have contacted the state for help with their tactics.  Good luck.
