Is it legal for an employer to pay for only 15 minutes of every hour of training?

My employer will only pay 15 minutes for every hour of training done on non-business hours. We are not allowed to take the training courses during business hours either.

Good question. If you as an employee are required to attend actual training time as part of your employement and you are on an hourly wage as opposed to being on salary, you employer is required to pay you the hourly wage for attending training done on non-business hours.

Assuming the training exceeds days beyond 8 hours or 40 hours per week, you would most likely be entitled to overtime wages as well. I suggest that you speak with your supervisor concerning the need for proper payment. If your employer is unwilling to do so, I suggest that you contact a labor law attorney about what is happening at your job and the failure to get paid for training time done on non-business hours.
