Can a landlord sue me for rent owed from two years ago if I was asked to sign a new lease and no mention was made of past rent owed?
I have lived in the same house for 3 years. About 2 years ago, I fell behind in rent and since then have been trying to pay it off. During this time I was asked to sign a new lease and nothing was mentioned about owing past rent. The present landlord is also adding interest to the amount owed each month even if I pay on time. He is counting all payments as being late on the new lease because I still owe him money from 2 years ago.

While you still owe the past due rent, the old lease should indicate if interest is due on late payments. Nor should he be treating the current rent paid as past rent without your agreement.
