If you are asking your present insurance company to backdate a cancellation since you found less expensive insurance they do have the right to see the replacement policy. If there is no insurance and you have a claim, they would be held responsible for the claim, so they want to be sure there is no gap in your coverage. This is a fairly standard request by insurance companies. When you provide a copy of the new policy, you can black out the premiums of the new policy. All your company is looking for are the dates of the new policy. They should have no problem with the premium being blacked out.You indicate the new policy is in a new state. This could have a great effect on the cost of your insurance. Each state has a different set of rating procedures which can have a big effect on how the rates come out. Make sure the state you are using for your insurance is the state in which you live or use the car.
