Company History: The Viking Insurance Company of Wisconsin was incorporated in 1971 and adopted its current name in 1973. It became a part of the Sentry group of companies when it was purchased in 2005 by Sentry Insurance, a mutual insurance company. Sentry Insurance was founded in 1904 by members of the Wisconsin Retail Hardware Association to provide insurance to its members. Sentry is one of the largest mutual insurance companies in the United States, offering a full line of insurance coverages for businesses, families and individuals. Products are offered through a fleet of over 15 insurance companies and include life, group health, auto and other property and casualty lines of coverage. The company also offers mutual funds though its subsidiary, Sentry Equity Services. Viking Insurance Company of Wisconsin writes primarily (90%) private passenger auto liability coverage and automotive physical damage insurance (10%), mostly in California (51% of premiums), Washington (13.9%) and Colorado (11.8%) with the rest coming from 16 other states.
