What to do if a handyman that used to work for us stole close to $1500?
He supposedly went to pick up things and never came back with them and now will not answer any phone calls. I have all of the check copies with the items supposedly purchased named in the memo box. Can we press charges? If so, what crime can we press charges for?

You can file criminal charges against the handyman for larceny. Larceny is the trespassory taking and carrying away of the personal property of another with the intent to permanently deprive. Larceny occurred when he took your personal property with the intent to steal since he didn't return the items to you.
