Am I required to tell my employer my personal email address or my marital status?

Every year we are sent an email to update our personal email. Redirect URL/Emergency contact/Phone. All of a sudden they are asking for our home phone, mobile phone, personal email, and our marital status. This is making me curious about why they need my personal email address and what is the point of knowing my marital status? It has no bearing on my job that Ihave worked at for what seems like 100 years. Just seems very suspicious to me, like they are going to start doing searches on my email on the web or something. I just want to know if this is something they can legally ask? Do I have to give this info?

You are not required to advise your employer of your personal e mail address in that it has nothing to do with your employment unless your employer allows employees to use their personal e mail for business purposes. Such a practice would not be a good busienss decision in that there would be an overlap of business and personal transmissions.

As to marital status inquiry after a person has been hired, such a question is not improper especially if the needed information is for contact information if the employee is injured at work or for insurance purposes.

Why don't you ask you employer why this additional information is being requested? You might receive a reasonable response.
