Do I have grounds to sue the company if I was assulted by a manager?

If so, what procedures or actions must be taken? An assistant manager was upset that I interfered with his sale and asked me to step outside. Once outside he threatened to hit me at which time I turned around to go back inside. At this point my back was up against a brick wall. The assistant manager then put his hand around my throat for numerous seconds until the store mangager saw what was occurring and told him to get his hands off of me.

This is assault.  You have two options.  You can report this matter to the police and start a criminal action against your assistant manager.  Your other option is to pursue a civil action.  I am taking from your question that you did not suffer any physical injuries as a result of this incident, so you do not have an economic damages to pursue.  However, this is a hostile work environment situation and yes, that is actionable.  I would suggest you contact a personal injury attorney in your area and seek a consultation.  He or she will be able to hear all of the facts of your case and give you a more informed opinion with respect to what your legal options are.
