If I have to go to court for eviction, will this affect my credit?
I signed a lease 2 years ago. The landlord never renewed my lease. He picked up rent with promises of maintenance on the property. No maintenance done, mold developed on the walls of the basement, in the bedrooms, the sewer backed up and water sat in the basement for days until I paid someone to unclog it. He would get mad if I took what I paid for services out of the rent & asked me to let him handle it. But he never did. I’ll leave with no problem, but is this going to affect my credit?

Why do you think that it will effect your credit if you leave? Only if you leave without giving him the proper notice. You are a month to month tenant now meaning that you have no lease and you occupy the premises on a month to month basis. You can give your landlord 30 days notice that you intend to vacate the premises. Say if you pay your rent on the 1st of November give him notice - in writing - maybe 2 or 3 days before on say October 30the that you will be leaving on December 1st. Send the letter by certified mail. And when you leave do a walk through of the premises and have him note any damages or defects he believes exists above "normal wear and tear" to make sure that it does not come back to haunt you. Take photos as well. Good luck.
