Can a manager withhold pay for a personal object.
I was recently terminated from my job. My manager has now texted me asking for a book back or it will be withheld from my paycheck. Is this legal?

Unless you agreed to such a withholding in writing, then this action is illegal. An employees must be paid for all hours worked. To the extent that money, etc. is owed to an employer, then they must sue the worker in question in small claims court. At this point, you can file a wage claim with your state's department of labor.
