Can an employer dock hours from a paycheck if they are not satisfied with the work?

They claim the work was unsatisfactory, so they are going to take 1 hour off our

paycheck to compensate?

Under the circumstances, you can either file a wage claim with your state's depaetment of labor and or consult directly with an employment law attorney.

No, an employer cannot do this. It constitutes a violation of both state and federal law. A worker must be paid for all hours worked, which means that a paycheck deduction cannot be made due to an unsatisfactory work product. In such a situation, a company can re-train and/or discipline (up to and including termination) but it must compensate an employee for all work done.
