Can an employer fire me for my training as an Emergency Medical Responder?

My employer is threatening to fire me because I am scheduled to work
however, I have training for EMR the same day. I requested it off, but they
refuse to allow me to go to it, and are threatening to fire me for ‘moon
lighting.’ Is that legal?

Unless you have rights regarding this under the terms of an employment contract or union agreement, then you can be terminated for this. In an "at will" work arrangment a company can set the conditions of employment much as it sees fit. This includes when and why to fire an employee. In fact, a worker can be discharged for any reason or no reason at all, with or without notice.
