Most employment arrangments are "at will". This means that a company can set the conditions of employment much as it sees fit. Accordingly, it can set whatever safety and other policies that it deems appropriate. So absent an employment contract or union agreemnt to the contrary, if you do not comply with this mandate, you can be terminated, suspended or otherwise disciplined (in fact, any of these can happen for any reason or no reason at all).
