The job descriptions vary slightly in wording but the duties are the same.

Employment relationships are contractual in nature.  This means that if the employer would like to rehire an employee and the employee is willing to accept the new employment under the modified terms, then both are free to accept the agreement-- via the re-hiring of the employee.  The main thing is that both parties are accepting of the agreement.
