Can I ask my apartment to pay me back for items the maintenance man got paint on?

The maintenance man did a sloppy job painting my countertops in my apartment. He got paint on my shower curtain in the restroom as well as items outside the restroom. The items aren’t worth much, however he did get paint all over my stuff. Can I ask them to pay for it, or do I have any bargaining power with my apartment complex.

If a landlord (or its staff) negligently (or carelessly) damages a tenant's property, the landlord is responsible for them, and would have to pay for repair or replacement, as applicable. However, if the landlord will not voluntarily honor its obligation unpon request, you would have to sue for the money, whic may well not be worth it.
