Actually, and unfortunately, you can be fired for this. In fact you can be fired for any reason or no reason at all, with or without notice. The fact is that most employment relationships are what is known as "at will". This means that an employer can set the terms and conditions of employment much as it sees fit.
The exceptions to this would be if you have protection under a union/collective bargaining agreement, employment contract or company policy. Also, your treatment cannot be the result of discrimination or retaliation. Otherwise, your termination is legal.
