You can divorce your spouse; you are not required to stay in a marriage if you no longer wish to be married. However, in every divorce case, you must know you have to properly notify/serve your spouse and then depending on how long you have been married, you will need to go through the court for a full accounting of your joint assets and debts and separate assets and debts and the court may order spousal support for your spouse who is a nursing home or your continued medical insurance coverage for your spouse. Make sure you go through all of your assets and debts and if you feel it would be more appropriate for you to go through counsel, make sure you consult with divorce counsel and hire one to help represent you.
