If the assault is considered to be a felony (and I believe that in Ohio it is) then I would have to say that no, you probably can not own a gun under the laws in the state and surely under the terms of your probation.  Ohio takes "simple  and "aggravated" assaults very seriously.  Under the law as I have read it, you were probably charged with aggravated assault which is considered a fourth degree felony.  If any crime has the charge of a "felony" you can bet that you no longer have the right to own a gun, at least for a certain time (some states I understand allow for reapplication of the right).  I would check with your probation officer or a criminal attorney in your area.  Good luck.
