Can my employer refuse to give me days off whenI ask?
I have trouble asking for days off when I need them sometimes. They say no, is that legal? I work at a hotel but is individually owned.

Yes, your employer can do this. That is unless you have an employment contract, union agreement or there is a company policy that states otherwise. Absent that, it is perfectly legal to deny an employee a day off. Such time is granted at the discretion of an employer. This means that they can choose to give it or not. Basicaly, in an "at will" employment situation, an employer can set the terms and conditions of employment much as it see fits. In turn an employeee, can choose to work for an employer or not. While seenmingly unfair, it is the law.
