Can my landlordforce me to get renters insurance orby evict me if I don’t?

They are asking for a minimum of $100,000.00 liability.

Well if they are making it part of the lease which is a contract that can be negotiated then if you do not like that provision you do not have to rent the apartment. That is the beauty of the freedom to contract. But if he is imposing the requirement after the signing of the lease and after you have moved in, probably not.  There would be no valid basis in landlord tenant law to evict you from what I can see, although I might double check with an attorney or tenant's rights organization in California in case there is an obscure law that I am not aware of there. There very well could be.  Good luck.
