Charging someone as an adult when they were a minor at the time of the offense can be done. Why it's being done in your case I don't know. If you could provide more details that would help. You'll need to speak to an attorney about this as well.
If money is an issue call the public defender or legal aid. What I don't know is whether or not this is your first offense; if it is that will weigh heavily in your favor.
