Have you checked your retainer agreement? if not, then do so as they typicially contain a provision regarding non-payment and withdrawal from a case. The fact is that a law firm is like any business, it must be paid in order to obtain it services.

Attorneys usually have a provision in the retainer agreement which authorizes withdrawal from a case if fees are not paid. You should review the retainer agreement. If you feel the attorney is acting unjustly, your State Bar may have a fee dispute resolution process.
