What to do about estate property ina divorce?

My wife’s father passed away 7 years ago and she was named executor of the estate. The house was not sold for 6years. During that time I did a lot of work on the house, such as kitchen remodel, new hardwood floors, painting and maintenance, etc. If we are divorced, am I entitled to be paid for my labor even though the value of the home dropped during the downturn in the market?

There are too many facts here that are left out in order to give proper guidance on your particular situation.  Was she the only heir?  Was there any deal as to compensation when you did the work?  Was the house sold and who got the money?  How much was the value of the work and increased value of the estate asset?  If you are saying there was a verbal deal as to the work performed then it should have been paid from the estate.  Was it already closed?  Get some advice from an attorney in the area.  Good luck.
