Do prenup agreements have to be done through a lawyer?
Can we just prepare it ourselves, sign it, and then have it notarized?

Could you? I guess that you could. Should you? No, I would not. If you have anything substantial that you wish to remain only yours should the marriage not work out - and I hope that it does - you would want to make sure that the contract you have signed is binding on both parties and could not be set aside for various contractual stumbles you did not think about like fraud or failure to disclose assets, etc. . Good luck.
