Does my friend need an attorney if she got a call from a detective asking to meet for an interview related to her ex-husband on trial for murder?

She hasn’t spoken or seen her ex-husband for more than 10 years. She’s not remotely involved in the case but it seems they want to talk to her to get background/history on her ex-husband. Should she get a lawyer to the interview?

If she is not a suspect in the murder, she does not need an attorney. Once the questioining begins, if she does not like the focus of the questions or the tone of the interviewer, she can refuse to answer any more questions and , at that time, ask for her attorney to be present. Just because she begins the interview without an attorney, does not mean she can't stop the questioning and ask for an attorney.
