I turned in my 2-week notice; my last day is 09/01/10. I asked my personnel manager if I will have at least 30 days of insurance coverage left until I can find different insurance for me and my 3 children (1 child is disabled). She said no, that my last day is the last day that the insurance is available.

No, your employer is not obligated to retain your coverage or keep you covered. You will, under federal law, have the right to continue the coverage yourself--which is the good news; the bad news is that you have to pay all the costs yourself. That is, you will need to pay that portion of the premium which would normally have been paid by the employer as well as the portion (if any) that you paid, such as by deductions from your pay check. This is what's known as "COBRA," and it applicable or available to people who resign as well as those who are fired or laid off.
