Luckily there were no injuries. The other drivers insurance company has stated they will pay for the damages to the car directly to the rental car company. They have also offered to pay for 2 new child seats and one day car rental.

You can receive compensation for your wage loss from the at-fault party's insurance carrier.  You will need to provide documentation of your wage loss from your employer.

You won't be able to recover compensation for time you spent on the claim.
