If a friend was recently sexually assaulted on the same college campus that I attend, am I legally allowed to keep a taser with me?
Because of this, I would like to purchase a taser to keep with me while on campus but am unsure of the legality of this.

Good thing you asked. A taser is a stun gun (Taser is the brand name). In North Carolina, it is legal to buy a stun gun, but you may possess and use it only on your own premises (in your house or the surrounding property). As a civilian it is illegal to carry a stun gun (openly or concealed) in public. (N.C. Gen. Stat. Ann. § 14-269.) So the answer here is no, you can not do as you intend in your question.
