If I’m an illegal immigrant married to a US citizen, if I fly home to England can I file my paperwork from there?

If you entered the US lawfully, you should be able to complete the process within the US.  If you leave the US you will trigger an automatic 10 year bar to reentry.  If you entered the country unlawfully, you should stay put in my opinion, to see if there are upcoming changes in immigration laws that may impact you favorably.
