Assuming that the homeowner was not living in a jurisdiction where fire alarms are required under a statute or building code, there is no requirement at common law for homeowners to have fire alarms installed in their homes before inviting guests over. A homeowner is only required to warn his guests of known dangers in his home. Not having fire alarms does not necessarily present an unreasonable risk of harm toward all guests to the home.
