What to do about a washer connection that caused flooding?
Landlord put washer and dryer connections in living room and had a drain in place. Our washing machine hoses came undone and water began flowing. The drain that was on the floor did not drain causing the entire house to flood. Landlord now wants us to pay for new carpeting saying it was our washing machine that caused it. Is he right?

Who connected the hoses--that's likely the critical issue. If the landlord, his staff, or contractors hired by him did, then he would be responsible for the damage. But if you, or service people, contractors, etc. hired by you, made the hook-ups that came undone, you would be responsible for the damage--when tenants, or those under their control, negligently (or carelessly) cause damage to the landlord's property, they are responsible for the cost to repair or replace.
