How can I remove an attorneys lien from an old automobile accident settlement payment check?
The insurance check is made out to both myself and my past attorney, I settled the case myself with an insurance company after my attorney dismissed himself from the case. The case was settled some 2 years ago. The insurance company refuses to issue the check in the plaintiffs name alone. I want no contact with this attorney, as a long term (30 year) professional relationship was severed due to another unrelated matter.

Your instinct is correct that you must find him and to see whether there is unpaid attorney fee or whatever. Ask him to collect his part and release the rest of fund to you.
