How can my landlord raise my rent if I have alease for different amount?
I signed a lease with on 04/20/10 for a 2-bedroom. I was supposed to be charged $375 per month. I recently received a notice that effective 01/10 my rent would be upped to $495. I have a lease with them and have been paying rent in full and on time. I also have not been any sort of a problem tenant. What can I do about this?

Check with the landlord regarding the effective date of the rent increase. It must be a typographical error by referring to January 2010 when your lease was signed on April 20, 2010.
As for rent increases, unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done unless it is violating a rent control ordinance or if there isn't any rent control ordinance, you did not receive proper notice. If your lease is month to month, the landlord only has to provide you with 30 days written notice of the rent increase. If you had a one year lease, your rent cannot be increased during the one year lease term.
