The lawyer should do so within a "reasonable" time, but there is no specific time limit or period set out in the law. Generally, a delay of a couple of weeks is acceptable in all cases; a longer delay may be reasonable if the laywer or client is traveling and away, or ill and hospitalized, and schedules simply don't permit the attorney to hand the money over.
