I am so sorry for your loss. What they are submitting to the court is known as a wrongful death compromise order. This is one of the most detailed and time consuming proceedings. The Surrogate's Court will review the matter in detail to protect the interests of all of the heirs of the deceased person. So it really could take months before you can expect the money. I would check in with your lawyer every few weeks to a month to see how it is going. If it starts to drag on passed 4 or 5 months then ask to speak to him personally. Good luck.
