Can I draw my pension at the same time as unemployment?

I am a school teacher 59 years old was laid off from my job. I have been on unemployment for almost 22 weeks seeking employment, not having any luck. I will be eligible for tier one only. I am now considering drawing my monthly pension from PERS and STRS retirement. I have paid into both these retirement funds. My monthly intake will be approximately 1,400 from the retirement. When I sat with my STRS COUNSELOR he said I could back date my retirement from the time I was laid off. I have read the EDD website and it is confusing. Can I receive my retroactive without penalty? I will still be seeking employment.

Under the laws of all states in this country based upon the facts that you have written about there is nothing preventing you for drawing your pension at the same time as you are seeking unemployment benefits. I suggest that you contact your retirement benefit coordinator about your matter.
