I’m getting married and want to know if my spouse will have any rights to my assets aquired before marriage?
My finace has about $10,000 in assests and a student loan of about $50,000. Her net worth is about -$40,000. I have a rental condo, 2 rental boat slips, a boat and 3 retirement accounts. I have a net worth of about $150,000 after subtracting for mortgages. In the event of a divorce, would she have any rights to the property I had aquired before we got married?

Generally speaking, assets acquired prior to marriage are separate property. But separate property can become marital property or quasi-marital property if there can be shown an intent to make the property marital: adding a name to a title or deed, making a home a marital home, etc. The best thing to do is a pre nuptial agreement. Good luck.
