If I’m looking into being a sponsor for an immigrant and will fill out form I-864, am I responsible for an immigrants wife and child that are US citizens?

The American born child is receiving CHIP (children’s Medicaid) and I was wondering if I could be held responsible for paying back this money since it seems to be means tested public benefits? The only person on the form I-864 is the immigrant father.

Under federal immigration law as well as state law concerning legal responsibility for the dependents of the immigrant that you desire to sponsor whose dependents are United States citizens you would not be deemed under the law any way responsible for the needs of the immigrant's family who are American citizens.
