I am so sorry for your loss. It sounds as if your ex really made sure that you were going to get the money by re- designating you as the beneficiary under the policy, even though it appears that in the state of North Carolina that was not necessary (it is in many states but not in yours). So you should have no problem - given the facts here - on that front receiving the pay out. Good luck.
