Medical malpractice is negligence.  Negligence is the failure to exercise due care (that degree of care that a reasonable medical practitioner in the community would have exercised under the same or similar circumstances to prevent foreseeable harm).
How long has it been since the doctor misdiagnosed your condition?
In CT, there is a two year statute of limitations for filing a lawsuit in a medical malpractice case.  It is 2 years from the date of the negligent act or 2 years of the date the injury was discovered or 2 years within the date the injury should have been discovered.  In no event can a claim be brought more than 3 years after the date of the negligent act.
If you have not missed the statute of limitations, your lawsuit for negligence should be filed against the doctor, immediately.  If you have missed the statute of limitations, you have lost your rights forever in the matter.
If you have NOT missed the statute of limitations, obtain your medical bills, medical reports, and documentation of wage loss.  Your medical malpractice claim should include those items.
Compensation for the medical bills is straight reimbursement.  The medical reports will document the nature and extent of your condition and will be used to determine compensation for pain and suffering which is an amount in addition to the medical bills.  Compensation for wage loss is straight reimbursement.
