Wht to do if recently, through an investigation conducted by my electric company, it was found that my meter was shared with my neighbors?

They were paying for our lights. Now the electric company is saying we owe them money. I have no idea how they came up with their estimate and who is responsible for that bill? I understand I used that electricity, but it was due to my landlords negligence and ignorance that this was going on. It is the landlord’s responsibility to provide safe and working electric and obviously this electric was not up to code. In my opinion he is responsible as I have a pretty good idea he knew all about that improper electric hook up. Why should I pay it if it was his fault?

Given what you have written about concerning the electricity issue that you are now faced with it would be the landlord's problem to resolve and not yours for the simple reason that you are solely the tenant of the rental and not its owner.
